EXPOSITORY WRITING

HEALTH: INFECTIOUS DISEASE

              

               Infectious disease are the second leading cause of death the leading cause of disability-adjusted life years worldwide ( Anthony S. Fauci, 2001). In 2019, two infectious disease which was lower respiratory infections and diarrheal diseases were ranked in the top ten causes of death worldwide by the World Health Organization (WHO). Infectious diseases are commonly caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites. Human can get infectious diseases from other people, vector and contaminated food, water or soil. Some infectious diseases are minor and some are very dangerous.

 

               Tuberculosis or also known as TB is one of the examples of infectious disease that caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. It primarily infects the lungs but can also give impact to the other parts of body such as brain, spine and kidneys. Tuberculosis is divided into two types, which is active TB and latent TB. On the one hand, latent TB remains in the body in an inactive state cause no symptoms. It is not contagious, but it can become active if the immune of the body is weakens.

 

               On the other hand, active TB is causes symptoms like coughing up blood, sweats and chest pain. In addition, it is contagious and requires immediate treatment by taking antibiotics and vaccine. But to be reminded, this treatment requires a long process. Basically, TB can spread from one person to another person when someone with active TB cough or sneeze, they will release tiny droplets that contain the bacteria.

 

               Besides that, a vector is usually an insect that transmits a pathogen. One of the most well-known examples of vector-borne disease is malaria. Malaria mostly spreads to people through the bites of some infected female mosquitoes named Anopheles. This disease can be transmitted by contaminated needles and blood transfusion. Symptoms of malaria include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Once malaria is diagnosed, identification of the malaria species is necessary to select the exact treatment. The other initiative is by keeping our body hydrated. It helps to maintain the blood volume and prevent someone from dehydration. In addition, make sure to monitor of vital signs and symptoms to detect any complication early.

 

               To maintain our health, it is crucial to do a regular exercise at least twice in a week. Simple exercises like walking and jogging can improve cardiovascular health and make an individual more active. The most important thing is to wash hand regularly with water or sanitizer especially before eating or touching face. It helps to keep someone from easily getting infected. And do not forget to avoid from become a close contact with infected individuals. And never forget to always wear face masks when someone is in crowded places.

 

               To sum up with, infectious diseases are the challenge that we have to face nowadays. By taking proactive initiative to protect ourselves and communities by prioritizing cleanliness, do some physical exercises, the spread of infections can be reduced and can improve health level. Education and public awareness also paly critical roles in minimizing the spread of infectious diseases on society.
